Choose Your Own Adventure

January 2nd, 2019

I just finished watching Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and I have to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed it. Set in 1984, the story revolves around a programmer trying to create a video game adaptation of a choose your own adventure fantasy novel. The twist is that you, the viewer, will also be asked to make decisions at various crucial times during the show to lead the story further along.

With the choice options sprinkled throughout it meanders through branching paths and directions and depending on which way you chose to go it definitely rewards multiple viewings to get multiple endings.

During my viewing(s) I experienced quite a few of the endings and while some were better than others I really do feel that it works as a whole. I can only imagine the amount of work it took to film and coordinate all the scenes and subtle changes as new paths would be taken. Also, as a kid of the 80’s, the nostalgia hit all the sweet spots for me and made we want to dust off the old Commodore 64.

If this sounds like something up your alley I highly recommend that you check it out. Or don’t.

The choice is completely up to you..
